Jay Said That the Strip Off of Edmondson Avenue Was Only Four Blocks Away From Hae’s Car
Last week, I did a post about the Statement of Facts for Jay’s guilty plea and the notation in the Progress Report on Jenn’s February 27th indicating that “[t]he victim’s auto was then parked in the rear alley of 600 Edgewood Street, in Southwest Baltimore.” Given that the official story was that Jay led the police to Hae’s car in a vacant lot behind 300 Edgewood Street, the Progress Report raised questions about whether the police were at some point given different information about the location of Hae’s car, with Jenn possibly being the provider of that information.
As the commenter “carnotbrown” subsequently noted, the Progress Report listed the “600 blk. Franklintown Road” as the location of the trunk pop (the strip off of Edmondson Avenue), creating the possibility that the police mistakenly transposed the “600” when filling in the location of Hae’s car. In a more recent comment, however, the commenter “Farhana” noted something even more interesting, which suggests that Jay himself indicated that Hae’s car was located at 600 Edgewood Street.
Toward the end of Jay’s first recorded interview, there is the following exchange (page 31):
Let’s now map the distance from the rear alley at 600 Edgewood Street to the strip off of Edmondson Avenue at the 600 block of Franklintown Road (map):
The rear alley at 600 Edgewood Street is between Edgewood and Denison Streets. If you travel East, you hit North Hilton Street/Hilton Parkway (one block). If you travel another block East, you hit Ellicott Driveway/North Rosedale Street (two blocks). If you travel another block East, you hit North Longwood Street (three blocks). Finally, if you travel one more block East, you hit Poplar Grove Street (four blocks). The strip off of Edmondson Avenue is then between Poplar Grove Street and Franklintown Road, the diagonal street where the red pin is dropped in the map above. In other words, the strip off of Edmondson Avenue is basically four blocks away from the rear alley at 600 Edgewood Street.
Now, let’s map the additional distance between the vacant lot behind 300 Edgewood Street and 600 Edgewood Street (map):
As as evident from the difference between 600 and 300 Edgewood Streets, you have to head an additional three blocks South to get from the former to the latter (passing West Franklin, West Mulberry, and West Saratoga Streets in the process). The vacant lot behind 300 Edgewood Street, however, is not in the area between Eddgewood Street and the next (unnamed) North-South street to the West. Instead, when you hit West Saratoga Street, you head Southwest past another street, and the vacant lot is between that street and the next street to the West.
In other words, the strip off of Edmondson Avenue at the 600 block of Franklintown Road is about four blocks due East from the location listed in the Progress Report for Jenn’s interview but about eight blocks Northeast from the vacant lot behind 300 Edgewood Street where Jay supposedly led the police on February 28th. And yet, in the exchange just before Jay led the police to Hae’s car, he says that the strip off of Edmondson Avenue was “only four blocks down from where the car is.”
