Circuit Court Orders State to Respond to All Four Allegations in the Amanda Lewis Case
Last year, we investigated and reported on Amanda Lewis case on the Undisclosed Podcast. During the course of our coverage, we presented four possible grounds for reversing Amanda’s convictions connected to the drowning death of her daughter, Adrianna. These grounds were that (1) the judge removed a presiding juror outside Amanda’s presence and without her knowledge; (2) the judge removed this juror despite the juror finding the juror qualified to serve; (3) the judge replaced this juror with a juror who was only 17 years-old and thus statutorily unqualified to serve; (4) this replacement juror failed to report during jury selection that she had overheard the lead police officer on the case falsely claiming that Amanda was a drug addict who never should have had children.
All of this lead to Florida attorney Natlie Figgers filing a Motion for Post-Conviction Relief pursuant to Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.850. We’ve now gotten the great news that the circuit court has entered an order directing the State to respond to all four allegations. Here is the full order by the court:
